Basilosaurus Ancient Whale T-Shirt — Plate 165

The Basilosaurus swimming in a warm Eocene sea, reconstructed from the fossil evidence rather than from the movies.

Plate 165 of the Deep Time Atlas: museum-style paleo-art of Basilosaurus cetoides, reconstructed from fossil evidence and current research.

Field notes

• Period and age: Eocene, 41–34 Ma
• Where fossils are found: Alabama, Mississippi & Louisiana (USA)
• Group: Prehistoric Mammals
• Setting in the art: An ancient sea with marine life of its own time
• What the fossils tell us: Early whale with tiny hind legs; not a reptile despite the name

The shirt

• Bella+Canvas 3001 unisex tee, 100% combed and ring-spun cotton (heather colors are a cotton-poly blend)
• Fabric weight: 4.2 oz/yd² (142 g/m²), soft and lightweight
• Pre-shrunk, side-seamed, shoulder-to-shoulder taping
• Printed on demand (DTG) for you; blank sourced from Nicaragua, Mexico, Honduras or the US

Note: the fabric is slightly sheer and may show through a little in lighter colors.

Care: wash cold inside out, tumble dry low or hang dry, do not iron the print.
