Field notes
- Period and age: Late Cretaceous (Cenomanian), about 100–94 million years ago
- Where found: Kem Kem Group, southeastern Morocco; Bahariya Formation, Egypt
- Habitat: A vast river and delta system, rich in large fish
- Plants: Riverside conifers, ferns and early flowering plants; plant fossils from the Kem Kem are scarce
- Neighbors: Carcharodontosaurus, Deltadromeus, giant sawfish-like Onchopristis, coelacanths
- Debated: How aquatic it was (deep swimmer or shoreline wader) is still argued; posture and exact sail shape are uncertain
